Save Our Weekend - Let's Get Organised - Session 1
When: Tuesday 7th MARCH 5:45pm-8pm
Where: Training Room 2, Trades Hall (entry via 377 Sussex St)
Dinner: Please bring note donation for dinner
The Fair Work Commission have brought down their findings - but this isn't the end. Communities, religious groups and union members are getting organised across Australia to win back the weekend.
This gathering will be the starting point of a new phase in the community campaign in Sydney. We will spend time building relationships across our campaigns and diversity, learning from the Your Rights At Work campaign in the past, and honing community organising tools.
You can expect to leave the room:
Knowing what you need to do in your community to Save Our Weekend, and with some new tools to do it. You will have new allies, and likely make a commitment to act.
What to expect?
Bootcamp will include training, some readings and sharing about what is happening in your part of Sydney.
Before each meeting everyone is asked to read a short reading about community organising. (Don’t be worried if reading isn’t your strong point, all are welcome).
Expect to be in the room with people from many different walks of life, experience levels and from many different organisations including churches, community groups, universities, mosques, synagogues, unions, NGOs and activist collectives.
Expect to learn about the FairWork Commission decision, and how we can win back our weekend.
Expect to share your own experience on the issue and what aspirations you have for the future of penalty rates in Sydney.
Expect to be asked to take action, and be held accountable to commitments you make – so that we can build power to win.
Expect a good dinner and to finish on time at 8pm!
